About Us

The Black Belt News Network believes the Black Belt - the most rural and underserved region in Alabama - deserves free access to quality news and information.

Black Belt News Network serves Dallas, Marengo, Perry, Lowndes and Wilcox counties with award-winning coverage on a robust digital news site and across a range of social media assets. We also produce the region’s only live newscast. Our coverage focuses on community news and issues related to civil rights, infrastructure, economic growth and environmental justice.

Black Belt News Network can accept tax-deductible donations through fiscal sponsor Tiny News Collective and is in the process of becoming a full nonprofit.

The Network is woman-run by veteran journalist Cindy Fisher and has a staff with a combined 100 years of news experience. BBNN also employs a dedicated team of community correspondents who write on a freelance basis to help reach into all corners of the Black Belt. If you would like to join the team, send an email of interest to news@blackbeltnewsnetwork.com.
