After nearly 20 years in Selma, the Belk store in Selma Mall will be closing on June 5.

In a statement from national Belk representatives, the closure was made after "careful review of our business."

"We have been proud to serve the Selma community for over 18 years and will be offering our customers 60% off everything in-store, starting May 22, as a way to express our appreciation."

Selma sales associates will be laid off, although it is unclear how many.

"We are grateful for the contributions of our Selma associates and are providing them with support during the transition, including the opportunity to interview for a position at another Belk store," the statement said.

Following the closure, Belk directs customers to visit stores in Montgomery or Prattville, or shop online at Belk.com or on the Belk app.
