Selma funeral director Constance Smith Hendricks was named Woman of the Year by the Alabama Funeral Directors & Morticians Association.

Selma funeral director Constance Smith Hendricks was named Woman of the Year by the Alabama Funeral Directors & Morticians Association.

Hendricks was honored during the association's 87th annual convention in Tuscaloosa recently.

The Woman of the Year honor was given for Hendricks' "exceptional commitment and distinguished service to the organization."

AFDMA is under the leadership of President Kortez D. Boyd. Dr. Hendricks has served as his appointed Parliamentarian. Dr. Hendricks’ father, H.D. Smith Jr., a graduate of Atlanta College, was a local licensed funeral director and embalmer during her childhood. She chose this profession as her second career after a 52 years as a nursing education administrator.
