The Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences and the ASHS Foundation held a topping out ceremony on Thursday at the Demopolis site to recognize completing the initial phase of construction of the statewide high school that will trains teens in healthcare fields.

The construction team led by Brasfield & Gorrie marked the placement of the final structural beam at the top of the academic building that is part of the 10-acre campus.

Other teams and skilled crews involved in construction of the building were there, including Caldwell Architects, as well as city officials and residents involved in the project.

“With construction going smoothly under B&G’s expert management, this state-of-the-art tuition-free, public residential high school campus is on target to be ready about a year from now, welcoming students for full occupancy during the 2027-28 school year,” the school said in a statement on social media.

The first class starts Aug. 13 at their temporary location at University of West Alabama in Livingston before opening for students at the Demopolis campus located behind partner Whitfield Regional Hospital next year.
