Linden High School students start classes in new campus this week

Linden High School students moved into the newly built campus on Tuesday. 

The school was intended to open at the start of the year in August, but construction delays pushed back the opening by several weeks, according to Dr. Marlon Murray, Linden City School Superintendent and Linden High principal.

Murray said the district held classes for the 126 high school students at George P. Austin while crews finished work and inspectors cleared the new building. He said the temporary move went smoothly.

“We had school with our junior high kids at George P Austin and that was a huge success,” Murray said. “This past Tuesday, Sept. 22, was our first day, and everything went great, according to plan. Students and the faculty were very excited.”

Murray said the final inspection was completed Sept. 16, clearing the way for staff to begin moving furniture and equipment into the new school.

“Whenever I got the keys we put our plan in motion,” he said. “That very next day we started moving in. We started moving chairs, we started moving tables and all that different stuff from George P Austin from the actual gym into the brand new school. My teachers worked over the weekend and this past Tuesday, was the first day that we had school in the new high school.”

Murray said the district will host a community open house Sunday, Sept. 27, from 3-5 p.m. “Everyone is invited,” he said. “You are more than welcome to come and see the new school. Also I will have several of my community partners here and my faculty my teachers and my parents.”
