Selma City School System honored eight teachers as Teachers of the Year Dec. 10.
Each teacher was chosen by their peers.
An audience of friends, family and colleagues of the eight honored teachers enjoyed a catered reception in the Selma High School Media Center before the presentation began.
Selma City Schools Teachers of the Year are Deneen Hale from Clark Elementary, Yulanda Mason from Edgewood Elementary, Ashara Hicks from Meadowview Elementary, Jurni Owden from Payne Elementary,Tamisha Glover from Sophia P. Kingston Elementary, Franthia Childers from R.B. Hudson Middle, Constance Bowie from Saints Virtual Academy and Veronica Pitts from Selma High School.
From these eight, Yulanda Mason from Edgewood Elementary School was selected as Elementary Education Teacher of the Year, and Veronica Pitts from Selma High School was selected the Secondary Education Teacher of the Year.
Community and Family Engagement Specialist Cynthia Milledge announced the winners as Interim Superintendent Darryl Aikerson presented the certificates.
Aikerson said to the eight, “Thank you for loving your students. Thank you for loving your community. Thank you for loving Selma City Schools. But most of all, thank you for what you do every day in your classrooms.”
Selma City School Board President Johnny Moss said, “On behalf of the board, we congratulate you, and we honor you.”
