The Selma City School Board approved a contract for its new superintendent on March 21.
The board approved the contract for Dr. David Scott. After much discussion, the board voted to remove paid life insurance, paid leave, and dental and vision coverage from the contract.Â
The three items were a sticking point because Board Member Brenda Obomanu said she felt the board was paying Scott enough to pay for his own insurance. Scott’s salary is $157,000.Â
The rest of the contract was approved as written. Obomanu was the lone no vote.Â
Scott has more than 30 years of experience in education, most recently as director of curriculum and instruction in Tuscaloosa County. He replaces Dr. Zickeyous Byrd, who retired in October 2024 after two years at Selma City Schools.
