Congresswoman Terri Sewell won reelection for District 7 in the Tuesday General Election.
Sewell beat challenger Ammie Akin with 68.25% of the vote to Akin’s 31.68%.
Sewell said she looks forward to returning to Washington and working with the new Democratic majority that won elections Tuesday across the country.
Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress and flipped four Senate seats and notching key House wins.
"Across the nation, Americans of every background have sent a clear message that they are ready for a new direction,” Sewell said in a statement Tuesday night. “I look forward to returning to Washington under our new Democratic majority with renewed determination to fight for the issues that matter most: lowering the cost of living, protecting affordable healthcare, defending our voting rights, and building an Alabama where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”
