The mask mandate is back on for Dallas County’s Courthouse and its two ancillary buildings.
Dallas County Commission Chairman and Probate Judge Jimmy Nunn announced that employees and people doing business in the main courthouse, the annex building where the commission meets and the new administrative building (formally the Regions Bank Building) must wear masks.
Nunn said several employees, including Nunn himself, have come down with COVID. “We also saw that the (CDC COVID) numbers were increasing in Dallas County,” Nunn said. “So, we thought we should use probably use some precautionary measure to stop the spread of the virus.”
Nunn said anyone with business in any of the three buildings needs to wear a mask “to avoid leaving the virus or catching the virus when you enter into one of the three buildings.”
The Dallas County Commission typically meets the second Monday of the month, which falls this month on Monday, Sept. 11. “(Monday’s) meeting is canceled due to the COVID virus,” Nunn said. “As soon as we meet again, we will look at the numbers and regroup and go from there.”
“We have gotten some backlash because of this,” Nunn said. “We are the only county in the state of Alabama that’s doing this, I believe. But if I can save one life, it’s worth it.”
