ArtsRevive in Selma has been awarded a $66,000 Creative Places Arts Facilities grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts to support renovations across several of its downtown properties.
The funding will help improve ArtsRevive’s Carneal Building and Gallery 905, CREATE Space and 907 Water Avenue. The Creative Places Arts Facilities program is designed to strengthen Alabama’s creative economy by supporting the construction, renovation and enhancement of arts facilities statewide. The grants are funded through a special appropriation from the Alabama State Legislature.
According to ArtsRevive, the upgrades will address both preservation and functionality. Planned improvements include roofing enhancements at Gallery 905, CREATE Space and 907 Water Avenue, as well as installation of nano-ceramic window film at Gallery 905 to protect artwork from infrared and ultraviolet rays while reducing interior temperatures.
Additional work will include repairing a downpipe and adding an extension to redirect water toward the riverbank at the Carneal Building, replacing a mini-split air handler at 907 Water Avenue, and installing an exhaust fan in CREATE Space to remove heat and fine dust particles.
Executive Director Becky Youngblood said the grant will have a lasting impact beyond physical improvements.
“This grant … means so much more than just improving our physical spaces — it empowers us to fulfill our mission of using the arts as a catalyst for community development and creative placemaking in Selma and Dallas County,” Youngblood said. “With these upgrades, we can provide a safe, accessible and welcoming environment for community events.”
She added that the investment will help strengthen Selma’s cultural landscape and ensure the arts continue to play a key role in community connection and revitalization.
