Brooke Hogan is one of four celebrities teaming up with HGTV design experts in a renovation competition on Season 7 of Rock the Block. The casting was announced on October 1, just over two months after Brooke’s dad, Hulk Hogan, died from a heart attack.
After HGTV announced Brooke as one of the new Rock the Block cast members, she was met with an influx of online criticism. “You see all these people online, they’re like, ‘Oh, now that her ad passed away, she’s soaking up the fame.’ I’m like … we had this Rock the Block deal months before this happened,” Brooke told Entertainment Tonight in a new interview.
She also pointed out that she’s had her own design business, BB Designs by Brooke, since 2018, so this is certainly not a new venture for her. Season 7 of Rock the Block will feature HGTV stars teaming up with celebs who have a “passion for design,” and Brooke certainly fits the bill.
Brooke admitted that hearing from HGTV abotu Rock the Block was a “weird call at a weird time in life.” It came amid her estrangement from her father following his marriage to his third wife in 2023. “I had asked to be removed from my father’s will when he decided to proceed with his third marriage, not because of the lady he was marrying or anything like that, [but] my dad and I always had a really good relationship, and it was kind of like I was seeing two sides,” the singer explained.
She added, “He was confiding in me about things that were tugging at his heart. I was like, ‘Dad, I’ll be there for you, I’ll be your fall guy.’ There’s nothing he could’ve done, clearly, through our history that would’ve made me not love him. And then he kind of just said, ‘Oh, I’m going the other directly anyway. You live your life, I’ll live mine.'”
Amid the family issues, Brooke got pregnant with twins, who she gave birth to in January. “I justu had been through so much with filming since I was 15, but TV money doesn’t last forever,” Brooke pointed out. “I moved to Nashville, I started waiting tables. No shame in my game. Then I started my design business and I was doing OK, but it was hard to get off the ground and I did it, really, truly, on my own. No startup money. No help from my parents.”
Brooke’s Rock the Block partner, Scott McGillivray admitted that he “underestimated” her at first, but she made sure to reiterate that she has her own design business and real estate license. “For the first time, people are seeing me and not the curated lens version of me,” she concluded.
In addition to Brooke and Scott, Season 7 of Rock the Block will feature the following pairings: Taniya Nayak and Drew Lachey, Mina Starsiak Hawk and Vernon Davis, and Kim Wolfe and Chelsea Meissner.
