Selma-Dallas County will soon have a movie theater again. The Walton Theater is reopening this weekend after being closed for over a year due to COVID-19.
Theater Manager and Pastor John Grayson said his team is scrambling to get the theater ready for a Back to School event on Saturday that will feature a free movie, popcorn and a drink as well as games, face painting and other free gifts and prizes.
“We’re having a soft opening this weekend with a big back to school event for the kids,” Grayson said. “There is a new Space Jam out, so we are going to play the old original Space Jam with Michael Jordan. We’re playing that because we’re booking the new Space Jam the first of August.”
The Back to School celebration will be from 10 a.m. until noon.
Although the Walton Theater will be open before, Grayson said the actual grand reopening celebration will be on Aug. 21. The times will be like they were before with a kids’ movie Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. and the feature film later that evening at 6 p.m. For what movie is playing and when you can check out the Walton Theater Facebook Page.
