A Montgomery 11 year old has qualified to compete in the Junior Olympics next week.

Prestin Moorer-Jones, 11, will compete in the 100 meter dash against others his age in the country during the 2023 Junior Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa, starting on Monday through Aug. 6.

He made the Junior Olympics last year and placed sixth.

Moorer-Jones' family is from Selma and he lives in Montgomery. His family has a GoFundMe account to help pay for his trip. He goes by the nickname "JetPack" because of his speed.

The Moorer-Jones family will make the 14-hour drive to Iowa from Montgomery via rental car. His father Justin, who was a standout athlete at Selma High, said “last year we made the trip and didn’t know what to expect; this year we trained harder, we’re leaving early, packing better and have been preparing for this a lot more than what we did last year.”
