The Morgan Academy Senators could not overcome a host of injuries and the Bessemer Academy Rebels for a 49-8 regional loss for homecoming on Friday, Sept. 29.
With the loss, the AISA Class AAA Morgan Academy Senators suffered their fifth loss of the season and are now 1-5 overall and 1-3 in region play.
“Injuries were definitely a problem,” said Danny Raines, Morgan Academy head football coach and athletic director. “We had quite a few kids out tonight.” And, he said, “We got some more injured tonight.”
Raines said, “It was a tough loss against a good Bessemer team. We will try to get better.”
For the Senators, Milton Hand had an 18-yard touchdown run and a run for the 2-point conversion. He also had 25 carries for 173 yards.
The Senators’ Patrick Johnson completed seven of 15 passes for 51 yards and two interceptions. And Davis Fuller had 10 carries for 52 yards. On defense for Morgan, Hand had six solo tackles and two assists. And Fuller had four solo tackles, four assists and one sack.
The 2023 homecoming queen Allie Wilkinson and her court were recognized including, Ninth Grade Maids Lila Cornell and Anna Clay Fuller; 10th Grade Maids Kathryn Lyon and Brooke Waters; 11th Grade Maids: Maryn Bergeron and Mackenzie King; and 12th Grade Maids Taylor Roberts and Rori Wilkinson. The Senators will travel to face the Autauga Academy Generals on Oct. 6 for a regional game.
