Two companies operating in the Black Belt are part of a growing economy in Alabama through the forestry and logging industry, said a column from madeinalabama.com.
The forestry industry reportedly makes $36 billion annually and houses more than 110 manufacturing facilities including sawmills, paper mills and other production sites.
The investment from Alabama is estimated at $840 million, with $300 million in rural regions during 2023, the column said.
“Alabama’s forestry industry is a lifeline for our rural communities, providing stable jobs, generating significant economic activity, and supporting local businesses,” said Brenda Tuck, Rural Development Manager for the Alabama Department of Commerce. “With much of the industry rooted in rural regions, forestry helps sustain families, fund public services and create new opportunities for growth.
Contributing to this is Sierra Pacific Windows opening a campus in Phenix City and set to create 300 jobs.
Additionally, there is Two Rivers Lumber Co., which created a $65 million sawmill in Marengo County in 2017.
