Two centers serving victims of abuse have received grants from Gov. Kay Ivey totaling $116,000.
The Montgomery Area Family Violence Program Inc., otherwise known as The Family Sunshine Center received $60,000 to assist victims of family and domestic abuse.
The Family Sunshine Center serves Dallas County as well as Autauga, Butler, Chilton, Crenshaw, Elmore, Lowndes, Montgomery, Perry and Wilcox counties.
According to a press release from Ivey's office, matching funds of $15,000 will supplement the grant.
Butterfly Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center serves children who are victims of abuse and received $56,000. The center serves Autauga, Chilton and Elmore counties. Matching funds of $14,000 will supplement this grant.
“Those who have experienced the horrors of abuse, at any age, deserve to have the professional help they need to escape abusive situations and begin the healing process,” Ivey said in the press release.
“Agencies like Butterfly Bridge and the Family Sunshine Center have the resources and a knowledgeable staff to help victims through this difficult time.”
The funds were made available by the U.S. Department of Justice and are being administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs or ADECA.
“Gov. Ivey and ADECA continue to support the partnerships with these two organizations as they offer the services that victims need in order to recover from abuse,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell commented in the press release.
