The Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama (PARCA) will hold a forum on expanding broadband services to more residents next week.
The forum will feature Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-7), Rep. Robert Aderholt (AL-4) and former U.S. Senator Doug Jones.
“The COVID pandemic exposed numerous gaps in Alabama’s broadband infrastructure, seriously impacting virtual learning and work from home opportunities across the state,” said Ryan Hankins, executive director of the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama.
“Broadband expansion has become a hot topic in Montgomery and Washington with numerous pieces of legislation under consideration to increase access to more people."
"However, expanding broadband is not as easy as it seems. The PARCA Forum, Alabama Online: Failure to Connect, seeks to understand what is slowing down equitable expansion and whether the push for more broadband will matter after the pandemic ends.”
The forum will end with a Governor Albert P. Brewer Legacy Keynote Address featuring Ivey.
More information, including an agenda, can be seen here. Registration is required but is free and can be done here.
The forum will begin on Monday, March 1 and will last through Friday. Times are 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday.
