America's Field Trip scholastic contest is open for students in grades 3-12 for a chance to win a trip to several iconic locations in the U.S. 

The contest invites students to write essays or create art about what America means to them. 

25 awardees in first place from each grade level category and a chaperone will receive airfare, as well as lodging for a three-day, two-night trip to a select historic or cultural site.

Recipients in second place will receive a $500 cash award while teachers associated with the top-scoring student submissions in each category will receive a $1,000 cash award.

Some the trips planned for the 2024-2025 year include: 

  • Behind the scenes tour of the National Air and Space Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center and sleepover at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum in Washington, DC.
  • Exclusive visits to two Washington, DC, institutions: a trip into theNational Archives Vault on the National Mall and a private tour of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo.
  • Private guided tour of Yellowstone National Park in Montana and Wyoming.
  • Ranger-led hikes and tours of the cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado.
