Applications are open for the Alabama Historical Commission's (AHC) 2026 grants program. 

The AHC will provide $3,600,000 in funding to improve historic buildings and monuments and for educational programming. 

According to the AHC's website, "Preference will be given to properties listed in or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places that were built before 1840 and are publicly owned and accessible to the public; properties built in or before 1943 that are listed in or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places; and any property built after 1943 that significantly contributed to the civil rights movement."

Amounts will not exceed $75,000 and must be spent within two years.
