The Department of Economic and Community Development for the City of Montgomery has received a Community Partner Award from Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) for the Shady Street Park Project.

Accepting the award was Senior Development Manager Lois Cortell during the university’s Celebration of Research, Creative Activity, and Community Engagement.

An announcement from the City of Montgomery stated that the Shady Street Trailhead & Park project was started in 2020 after a memorandum of understanding was established with AUM’s Experiential Education and Engagement Center.

The goal of the project was to foster " student retention, graduation rates, and career readiness," said the announcement.

“We love inspiring students about urban planning, design, and getting involved in their communities,” said City of Montgomery Urban Design Planner Jocelyn Zanzot.
