An investigation is underway after a bomb threat made on Monday morning caused operations at the Montgomery Regional Airport to close before later resuming.

According to an announcement from the airport, the threat was made at approximately 8 a.m., prompting airport authorities, law enforcement and emergency services to be notified.

Sections of the terminal were cordoned off and then searched until the area was deemed cleared, said the announcement.

“The safety of our passengers and staff is our absolute priority,” said Chief Loyd Jenkins, interim executive director of Montgomery Regional Airport. “We are grateful for the rapid response of airport staff and our first responders who ensured the facility was cleared quickly and safely.”

The airport is now operating normally. No further information was made available as the threat continues to be investigated.
