Selma City Schools Superintendent Avis Williams was named vice president to the 2021-2022 Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) Board of Directors.
The ASCD included four new members to the Board of Directors, along with nine returning members.
“After an unprecedented year of virtual classrooms, hybrid schedules, rapid shifts between learning models, and countless web-based instructional resources, it is more important than ever that educators have easy access to the high-quality, relevant, carefully curated professional learning opportunities that ASCD provides,” said Board President Neil Gupta in a press release.
The release stated that its Board of Directors have "extensive" experience in the fields of elementary, secondary, and higher education. They represent ten states, two countries, six local education agencies, and five education-focused non-profit organizations.
In addition to Gupta and Williams are the following:
Patrice Dawkins-Jackson - Director, Post-Baccalaureate Fellowship and Associate, Networked Improvement Science, Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching (Stanford, CA)
Bart Epstein - CEO, EdTech Evidence Exchange / Research Associate Professor, University of Virginia School of Education & Human Development (Arlington, VA)
