Azzie Oliver was sworn in as the first black district attorney of the 15th Judicial Circuit in Montgomery County during an Oath of Office ceremony on Wednesday morning.

“I know where I come from and that I stand on the shoulders of so many giants," Oliver said in a post on social media. "To whom much is given, much is required. Being entrusted with the role of District Attorney of the 15th Judicial Circuit is a profound honor and responsibility that I do not take lightly."

Oliver takes over the position from Daryl Bailey, who retired in October.

“My goal is to make the name Azzie Oliver synonymous with lawful prosecution and victim advocacy," she said. "My office will serve the people, ensuring that those who seek to disrupt, or infringe upon the God-given right to live without being victimized will face the full force of law.”
