Multiple counties in the Black Belt are among 38 to be designated as primary natural disaster areas by the U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) because of a drought affecting much of the state.Â
According to the Alabama Political Reporter, the following counties were included in the U.S. Drought Monitor:Â Choctaw, Clarke, Dallas, Greene, Hale, Lowndes, Marengo, Perry, and Sumter.
Butler, Crenshaw, Monroe, Montgomery, and Pickens are contiguous counties.Â
Farmers who have been affected by be eligible for loans, which can be applied for at this website.Â
