Tomorrow Black Voters Matter will hold a free screening of "Lowndes County and the Road to Black Power" at the Capri Theater in Montgomery.

The film depicts the efforts of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, the Lowndes County Freedom Organization and the Black Panther Party to fight for voting rights.

Voting rights in Lowndes County were frequently met with violence from opponents, earning the nickname of "Bloody Lowndes," said a press release from Black Voters Matter.

 The screening will host:

  • Ronald James, Regional Organizer at Black Voters Matter
  • Acquanetta Poole, State Organizing Manager at Black Voters Matter
  • Michael Kelly, Vice President, Social Impact at Participant (virtual interviews only)
  • Arthur Nelson, Lowndes County Local and Film Subject

Doors will open at 6 p.m., followed by the screening at 7 p.m.
