Carrollton in Pickens County has received a $345,947 grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) to upgrade its sewer and wastewater collection system.

“This proactive step by the town of Carrollton will ensure vital local water and sewer services will continue to operate efficiently well into the future,” Gov. Kay Ivey said in an online announcement. “I am pleased to announce this funding for necessary utility upgrades that will benefit both local residents and businesses.”

Funds from the Appalachian Regional Commission will be used to replace aging pumps at four lift stations in the city. The aerator at the wastewater treatment facility will be replaced with a new one.

The project will be matched with $148,263 from the city.

“I commend Carrollton leaders for recognizing the need to upgrade their sewer system with newer and more efficient equipment, and I appreciate the Appalachian Regional Commission for recognizing the importance of this project and supplying the necessary funding,” said ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell.
