The Choctaw County Sheriff's Office is warning its residents about a series of phone scams that are impersonating law enforcement.Â
According to an announcement from the office scammers tell residents that they are facing jail unless they send money through crypto, ATMs, wire transfers, or gift cards.
"This is NOT how real law enforcement operates," said Sheriff Scott Lolley. "They will never demand payment over the phone or ask for crypto or wire transfers to avoid arrest."
Anyone who receives these calls are advised to never send money and to hang up and contact their law enforcement agencies directly to verify.Â
