A "major" update is being made to the city of Montgomery's zoning ordinance policy, said an announcement on Wednesday.

“The city is updating its zoning ordinance, a critical tool that determines how land is used, where homes are built, and how businesses grow,” said Shaleta Jones, Land Use Control Specialist for Montgomery.

The announcement stated that the zoning plan was last updated in 1985 and does not reflect the growth of the city since then. It further stated that zoning is important in order to ensure safety, development and economic "stewardship".

A series of public meetings are planned, though no exact dates have been announced yet.
