An unnamed company that has been proposing a solar farm in Lowndes County has declined a counter proposal by the commission and withdrawn its interest.

According to the Lowndes Signal, county attorney Prince Chestnut received the letter notifying the commission of its intention to step away from the project, which had been discussed for several months.

The decision came after the commission considered a proposal from the company to approve a 20-year tax abatement. Members of the commission sent a counter proposal that suggested a ten-year abatement and a $500,000 escrow in case roads are damaged by construction.

Commissioners reportedly expressed disappointment in the withdrawal but reiterated that the company's previous terms were unfavorable.
