If you live in Dallas County and have a damaged septic tank, you may qualify for a new septic tank through Black Belt Unincorporated Wastewater Program.
The program covers 11 counties in the Black Belt. Helene Towns Felton is the Community Liaison for
Montgomery and Dallas Counties. She said time is running out to apply for a new septic tank.
“We are trying to get septic tanks to citizens in need. Right now I’m focusing on Dallas County. If a resident of Dallas County has an old leaky septic tank, or maybe it’s damaged, they may qualify for the program,” Felton said.
There are certain qualifications. “The person applying must be owner of the property, not renting. And they must be able to prove ownership.” Felton added that a photo ID, a power bill and some other identification is a must.
Felton can only take in a limited number of Dallas County residents. She said if you think you may qualify to give her a call or text and she will help you. There is some paperwork and Felton is not the final word, but she is the person to call to start the process.
For information and to start the application process, call Helene Felton at 334-412-8670. She said if she does not answer to leave a message and she will return your call as soon as it is possible. You can also send a text to that same number.
