The Selma Saints battled Sipsey Valley in a hard-fought matchup, coming from behind in the fourth quarter to secure a 20–14 victory.
In the second quarter, Dwand Atkins scored the Saints’ first touchdown of the game. Sipsey Valley answered with a touchdown and a successful extra point.
Selma responded with a touchdown from Cedrick Simmons, followed by a completed field goal, giving the Saints a 12-7 lead.
The Saints’ defense came up with another big play when a Sipsey Valley pass fell incomplete and resulted in a fumble. Dwand Atkins (#10) recovered the fumble, giving Selma possession.
Before halftime, quarterback Kole Moody threw an interception, ending the Saints’ final possession of the half.
Sipsey Valley came out strong after halftime and took a 14-12 lead early in the fourth quarter.
The Saints refused to fold. Michael Hosea scored a touchdown and helped Selma regain control of the game. The Saints then converted the two-point attempt, taking a 20-14 lead.Â
Hosea scored both of Selma’s touchdowns in the second half, while the Saints’ defense held Sipsey Valley scoreless the rest of the way.
Selma (4-0) plays Shelby County (1-3) on Sept. 18 at Memorial Stadium.
