The Demopolis Planning Commission has lost its patience with the developer of the Cottage Courts project on Maria Avenue.

At their Oct. 14 meeting, the commission said the developer of the old Mauvilla Trailer Park site has only given them sketches of the project, and he has apparently not contacted adjacent landowners to discuss the project as requested.

The commission voted that they will consider the project abandoned if they don’t hear from the developer by their next meeting.

The commission agreed to further study the city’s sign ordinance. Little Drugs on Highway 80 inherited two entrance signs when it purchased the former CVS property, and they would like to use them both. However, the city ordinance states that businesses can only have one entrance sign.

Because a decision about the Little Drugs sign would set a precedent for other businesses with two entrances, the commission agreed to get advice on how to proceed.
