The Demopolis High School Tigers encountered a pack of stubborn bears at Sipsey Valley High School Friday but came away with a 28-20 victory.

The Tigers defense ran in an interception for 6 points on the first play of the game. Sipsey Valley tied up the game in first quarter, but Demopolis made another touchdown with 2:39 left in the first quarter and led by a touchdown for the rest of the game.

The Bears refused to hibernate. In fact, Sipsey Valley was closing in on a touchdown when a fumble ended their drive deep in Demopolis territory with 27 seconds on the clock.

Unofficial statistics show Demopolis made 13 first downs to Sipsey Valley’s 15. Both defenses made their opponents turn over the ball on downs and came up with interceptions and fumble recoveries that ended drives.

Demopolis, 5-2 on the season, faces Jemison on the road on Oct. 17.
