The Delta Regional Authority (DRA) is investing almost $3 million for water infrastructure improvements in Pickens and Perry counties, said an announcement from Rep. Terri Sewell on Friday.

The Perry County Water Authority was awarded $2 million while the Town of Carrollton was awarded close to $1 million.

“I am thrilled to announce that the residents of Perry County and Carrollton will soon be getting major upgrades to their water supply,” said Sewell. “These awards will help ensure that our communities have access to clean, safe, and reliable water."

"I thank the Delta Regional Authority for investing in Alabama’s 7th Congressional District, and I will continue fighting to bring federal dollars to the Black Belt to address our water and sewer needs.”

The Perry County Water Authority will use the money to improve the water system in the Heiberger area of Perry County, specifically to reduce system water losses, lower operation and maintenance costs, mitigate health and sanitation risk.

The Town of Carrollton will invest in a water distribution system project to improve water services for residents and businesses, "increasing their overall quality of life," said the announcement.

“The Delta Regional Authority is pleased to invest approximately $3 million toward critical infrastructure projects that will support two communities in Central Alabama within the DRA region,” said Dr. Corey Wiggins, DRA Federal Co-Chairman.

“Thanks to these investments, Carrollton and Perry County will soon have access to improved water supply and services that will meet the needs of the families who live in these communities and the businesses who set up shop, ultimately improving their quality of life and economic vitality.”
