Knuckle boom trucks

Five knuckle boom trucks ordered in February arrived Dec. 5.

Selma residents will now see five knuckle boom trucks picking up trash throughout the city.

According to a Dec. 12 news release from Selma Mayor James Perkins Jr., the trucks were delivered on Dec. 5. The trucks were ordered in February, according to Public Works Director Henry Hicks Sr.

A knuckle boom truck, also known as an articulating crane, is a truck-mounted crane with two booms that bend like knuckles, allowing for work in tight spaces.

“These trucks were purchased under amazing financial terms that will not burden the city,” Perkins said in the release.

Perkins reminded citizens that the trucks can only pick up trash piles that do not have household garbage mixed in.

“Usually when we get calls about piles not being picked up, it is because someone has put garbage in a trash pile,” Perkins said.
