A flooding warning is in effect for several areas near the Alabama River as it is expected to rise on Friday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) the warning was issued for the Alabama River Near Claiborne Dam, which affects Clarke, Wilcox and Monroe counties.

A flood warning was also issued for Millers Ferry Dam in Camden.

This morning the river crest was measured at 42.8 feet. The river is forecasted to rise to a crest of 46.08 feet on early Friday afternoon but will fall below the flood stage of 42 feet on Sunday morning.

Strong weather is projected for Central Alabama on Friday with potentially damaging winds, hail and possible tornados, weather reports say.

The public is advised to stay up to date with weather reports and take precautions as needed.
