Downtown Selma

Foot Soldiers Park will host a screening of the "Selma, Beacon of Hope" documentary at 6 p.m. on Aug. 14.

The screening is being the result of a partnership with the Harwood Institute for Public Innovation, Selma-Dallas County Children’s Policy Alliance, Selma-Dallas County NAACP.

In addition to the showing there will be discussion between Rich Harwood and SHA CEO Kennard Randolph and remarks from Judge Vernetta Perkins Walker.

It is hoped that the event will engage the local community and put Selma "on a new trajectory of hope," said a press release.

“It’s time to sound a call that in order to restore belief in ourselves and this nation, we don’t need more divisive politics," said Harwood. "We need to get on a new civic path. We expressly created Selma, Beacon of Hope, to inspire the people of Selma—and, indeed, all Americans—to step forward together in a new way. I believe people in Selma and all around the country are ready to go!”

The screening is free but space is limited and so registration is requested.

The film will be shown from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Foot Soldiers Park on 1018 Water Avenue.
