A deputy who had worked for the Pickens County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) was recently arrested and charged with alleged voyeurism and electronic stalking.
According to an announcement PCSO was made aware of "possible misconduct" from one of its employees on Sept. 11.
Sheriff Jordan Powell reportedly spoke with the District Attorney’s Office and requested an independent investigation from the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
The employee, identified as James Long Reed, 47, of Tuscaloosa, was arrested by SBI on Wednesday afternoon and fired from PCSO.
PCSO's arrest roster shows Reed as being charged with two counts of first degree electronic stalking and one count of first degree voyeurism. All charges were listed as felonies. He is being held without bond.
“As law enforcement officers, we are held to a higher standard of conduct and accountability," Powell said. "When an officer fails to meet those standards and violates the law, they should be held accountable just as any other person who commits a crime. Our badge does not place us above the law, and maintaining the public’s trust requires accountability at every level.”
