The SaveOurselves Movement for Justice and Democracy is hosting a "Good Trouble Lives On" rally in Selma on Thursday.

The rally, scheduled for 12-2 p.m. at the National Voting Rights Museum at the foot of the Edmund Pettus Bridge, is being held in honor of the fifth anniversary since the death of Civil Rights leader and Congressman John Lewis.

It is held in conjunction with 1,500 “Good Trouble Lives On” events taking place across the United States. Several other organizations from across Alabama are joining SOS to host Selma’s Rally on this date.

Organizers said in a press release that the Selma rally will include a range of speakers from across Alabama addressing the "critical need to protect American democracy, which is facing massive attacks, and related urgent issues facing Americans."

SOS encourages people of all ages to attend and bring signs and "your voice and stand up and stand together for good trouble for democracy at this most critical time."

"Alabama-native John Lewis encouraged people to get in 'good trouble, necessary trouble' for freedom and justice in America," the release said.

Thursday’s Selma rally will take place within yards of where he and others were beaten by State Troopers on the Edmund Pettus Bridge on Bloody Sunday, March 7, 1965, while fighting for equal voting rights.
