In response to growing food insecurity among vulnerable Selma residents, Gospel Tabernacle Church has launched a weekday food giveaway aimed at supporting SNAP recipients who have lost their benefits, as well as federal employees and contractors affected by furloughs during the government shutdown.

The initiative runs Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 2300 Summerfield Road in Selma. Eligible individuals can receive boxes and bags of groceries for themselves and their families. Organizers said it is designed for those impacted by recent benefit cuts or federal employment disruptions.

To participate, individuals must present documentation verifying their eligibility, either a SNAP card, a letter confirming benefit status or a federal ID.

“Just come by the church or call ahead to set up a time,” said Pastor John Grayson. “We’ll be ready to serve them when they get there.”

Those wishing to schedule a pickup or learn more can contact Gospel Tabernacle Church at (334) 872-0888.

Grayson said this is part of the church’s commitment to meeting urgent community needs with compassion and practical support.
