A police officer was shot during a traffic stop in Greensboro Thursday night, according to several news reports.

The Greensboro officer, identified as Miguel Edwards, shot a civilian during the traffic stop in Magnolia Village Apartments in the area of Short Blount Street. The civilian has been identified as Robert Williams of Greensboro, according to the District Attorney's Office. 

Edwards remains hospitalized.

The case has been turned over to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency for investigation. 

The District Attorney’s Office thanked residents and staff at Magnolia Village Apartments for cooperating with investigators and allowing access to the property during the investigation.

Greensboro Presbyterian is hosting a community prayer service for the officer at 5 p.m. Friday to pray for healing and family of those involved.
