Greenville High School (GHS) was recently recognized by the Alabama State Department of Education in its Legislative School Performance Recognition Program for the 2024–2025 year.
According to WAKA, GHS was able to raise its failing grade by 25 points and was recognized by the state department for doing so. As part of its recognition the school will receive a monetary award.Â
Goals of the program include applying new teaching methods along with using AI to raise graduation rates from 70% to 95%.Â

* WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills in the single digits are
expected.
* WHERE...Autauga, Bibb, Blount, Chilton, Dallas, Etowah, Fayette,
Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lowndes, Marengo, Marion, Perry,
Pickens, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and
Winston Counties.
* WHEN...Until noon CST Sunday.
* IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin
is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of
subfreezing temperatures could cause pipes to burst.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must
go outside.
Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.
To prevent freezing and possible bursting of pipes they should be
wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly.
