Hale County Library will celebrate its 100 years since being established with a Centennial Celebration Gala on Friday, May 2.

The event will feature a silver auction and a lecture by historian Ian Crawford, with the theme being "Edwardian Elegance: 100 Years of Fine Dining and Great Books." Music will be provided by Ken Bausano.

The celebration is open to the public. 1920s attire is welcomed but not required.

"This event offers a rare opportunity for community members to celebrate the library's rich history and ongoing commitment to knowledge, culture, and public education," said a press release from the library.

"Hale County Library was established in its current location on Main Street in 1925 when the Tunstall family donated the historical building for use as a library. An open house and birthday party is planned for later this year upon completion of ongoing renovations."

The event will be held in the Engle Gallery of the library located at 1103 Main Street in Greensboro.
