A heat advisory is in effect in the southern and west central portion of Alabama Tuesday through 9 p.m. on Wednesday.Â
According to the Dallas Emergency Agency Management Agency (EMA) heat index values are expected to be as high as 105 degrees and additional advisory may be issued during the rest of the week.Â
During this time the EMA advises drinking fluids, staying in air-conditioned rooms, staying out of the sun, and checking with relatives and neighbors.Â
"Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening," EMA adds. "Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water."
