The International Paper Foundation and Riverdale Mill has awarded a $100,000 check to the McRae-Gaines Learning Center in Selma for a capital project.

“We’re very proud to be able to award this support to McRae-Gaines, an organization dedicated to the education of Selma’s children for many years,” said Riverdale Mill Manager Mike Closson.

“We believe the Riverdale Mill is the premier employer in Dallas County, and our support of local schools and non-profits reflects that status, as well as our dedication to improving the lives of the people where we operate.”

The funds will be used to replace the floors in the former Cedar Park Elementary School. A press release from International Paper said that more than $1 million has been awarded to organizations in Selma and Dallas County since 2009.

“We’re grateful to the mill’s support of our mission over the years,” said director Sadie Moss. “We appreciate their dedication to the community and to the education of the children. We couldn’t do what we do without support from our community.”
