Gov. Kay Ivey recently issued a proclamation declaring May 1 to be Black Belt Community Foundation (BBCF) Day in recognition of the group's philanthropic efforts.

BBCF was founded in 2004 and was noted by the proclamation for promoting the 2020 U.S. census which resulted in "record" participation.

BBCF was also noted for their role in the recovery efforts in Selma and elsewhere in the Black Belt after the January 2023 tornado wrought millions of dollars worth in damages.

The proclamation also recognized that 2024 will mark the 20th anniversary of the founding of BBCF, which will celebrate a new headquarters location with a ribbon cutting and grand opening at 410 Church Street in Selma.
