The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that J.M. Smucker Co. has issued a recall on certain peanut butter products from its Jif brand.

According to the FDA salmonella can be especially dangerous for children, the elderly and those with a weak immune system.

"Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain," the FDA said in a statement.

"In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis."
