Dallas County Juvenile Detention Center recently recognized All in One Restaurant owners Laurine and Putzel Pettway for donating Thanksgiving meals for detainees.
“We have called upon Mrs. And Mr. Pettway several times in the past over the course of the years to donate meals for our detainees for major holidays and they have always come through,” said Veronica Evans, program coordinator, in a statement. “We know what it is like to miss home, so we try to provide meals that remind them of home during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.”
Even if they are “slow to call,” Evans said the Pettways remind the center of the upcoming holiday need. “That kind of kindness is hard to come by in this day and age,” Evans said.
The Detention Center also thanked Mark Woodson, owner of KFC restaurant in Selma, for providing meals on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.
“Whenever I have asked Mr. Woodson to donate meals to our detainees in the past, no matter the occasion, he has always come through and that says a lot about the kind and giving person that he is,” she said. “He is always happy to help and there is absolutely no hesitation to him saying yes whenever we call upon him to help us provide meals to our detainees.”
Evans said people like the Pettways and Mark Woodson that “restores your hope in humanity.”
“The kids love the food and we are so thankful,” she added.
