Lowndes County Sheriff Chris West has pled not guilty in the Hayneville Municipal Court to charges of harassment and interfering with a government operation.

According to WAKA, West’s attorney, Richard Rice, argued that the charges be thrown out by Judge Fred Bell, who declined to do so but would reportedly take it under advisement.

The plea comes after West was accused of making threats against District 1 County Commissioner Robert Harris when the two had a disagreement during a meeting to relocate investigators in the sheriff's department over to the former Hayneville Town Hall.

West was arrested following the meeting and booked on the misdemeanor charges.

If the request to dismiss is not granted a trial will take place on Nov. 14.
