Athletic Director: Lowndes football seniors will go down in history as best team ever

After solidifying their third straight state championship, Lowndes Academy Rebels Athletic Director Matt Marshall called this year’s senior football players “the best team to ever come through Lowndes Academy."

"As coaches, we are so proud of the kids for their effort, maturity, and growth throughout the last three years,” Marshall said. “They have ignited an excitement and passion for the game in our entire community." 

Lowndes Academy beat the Wilcox Academy Wildcats 20-7 at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery on Thursday, Nov. 16 to claim their third straight AISA Class A State Football Championship.

The Rebels were the two-time defending state champions and have now won back-to-back-to-back regional and state titles in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

The Rebels were a perfect 10-0 in the regular season, 4-0 in regional play and defeated Sparta Academy 47-0 and Jackson Academy 48-14 in the playoffs leading to the state championship bout with Wilcox Academy.

Marshall said the seniors will go down in history as the best team the school has had and the players will truly be missed.

Lowndes seniors include Clayton Hussey, Cooper Dansby, Scott Stinson, Pierson Hill, Jase Howard, Andrew Myers, Kasen Dismukes, Dominick Dougan and Michael Morgan.

For Lowndes, Clayton Hussey opened the scoring with an 18-yard rushing touchdown.

The Rebels’ second touchdown came on a 22-yard pass from Hussey to Brayden Stokes. 

The final touchdown for Lowndes was a 76-yard pass to Watters Box from Hussey. Box is also the kicker.

Lowndes Academy scored 541 points in 2023 for a new record for them. They also have a 19-game winning streak.
